FAQ
What is Venus Versa IPL Photofacial
IPL therapy is a powerful and effective treatment in reducing and removing hyperpigmentation and vascular lesions in the skin, from redness and spider veins to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (for example, post-acne) and sun damage pigmentation. This popular anti-aging treatment is a quick treatment with visible results after the first one to two sessions.
How does IPL Photofacial work?
IPL uses intense pulsed light photo-thermolysis through the delivery of specific wavelengths of light which interact with red and brown pigments in the skin (melanin and haemoglobin). These pigments absorb the light energy and are destroyed, often in one session. Hyperpigmentation patches are fragmented and either absorbed and removed into the blood and lymphatic system, and thread veins are obliterated almost instantaneously. Venus Versa has a high specificity and selectivity for pigmentation and redness created by sun damage and is one of the most powerful treatments for this purpose.
What are the benefits?
Venus Versa IPL is particularly successful in removing age spots (red/brown pigmentation), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, telangiectasias), rosacea, freckles, acne scarring and melasma.
What areas can be treated?
IPL can be used on any part of the body. The most commonly treated areas are those that are most frequently exposed to the sun, i.e. the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.
I have darker skin, can I still get this treatment?
Photo facial treatments work best for light to medium skin, so may not be suitable for those with darker skin types. We offer alternative treatments such as our Pigmentation Facial, Microneedling and Bespoke Skincare products for hyperpigmentation in darker skin.
How many sessions will I need to see the results?
Most patients receive 3-5 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated.
How often/far apart should the treatments be?
Treatments are done 3 weeks apart.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?
Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before, like retinoids, AHA, BHA. You must also avoid tanning, including with self-tanners. You may be advised to shave the area before your treatment. Remove all jewellery around the area being treated.
How long does a treatment session last?
One session usually lasts 15-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
What does the treatment feel like?
The applicator has a cooling feature built into it to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, you just feel like a light snap or flick on the surface of the skin.
How will I feel after treatment?
Your skin may feel warm, like a sunburn, and can remain red for anywhere from a few hours to a day. Be sure to follow instructions given for before and after your treatment.
How long will the results last?
It really depends on how your skin reacts to the treatment and how you care for your skin afterward. For example, if you protect your skin from the sun, the results will last longer. We recommend one touch-up session every 3-6 months, depending on how your skin responds to the treatment.
Can it be used with other treatments?
IPL can be used with many other treatments we offer in clinic depending on your skin concern and skin type. These may include the HydraFacial, Korean Glass skin facial, Radio Frequency skin tightening , Microneedling and Anti-Wrinkle Injections Etc.
What is the downtime?
There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.
Do I need to do anything after the treatment?
Avoid actively tanning for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment, and wear sunscreen, SPF 30 or SPF 50. You should also avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment.
