It's pain free
Cryotherapy or Cryosurgery is a quick and relatively pain-free, highly effective and safe procedure that is used to remove flaws in the skin by destroying benign skin lesions such as:
Warts, Skin Tags, Verrucae, Cherry Angioma, Milia, Age Spots
Cryopen Cryotherapy is the targeted use of extreme cold produced by liquefied nitrous oxide (N₂O), which provides a fast, effective and safe solution to destroy the flawed tissue by freezing the cell fluid, which in turn causes it to crystallise and ultimately destroy the targeted tissue.
Cryotherapy is quick, allowing you to be in and out within minutes, with the treatment itself often only taking a few seconds. It requires no anaesthesia and has minimal scarring. You can return to normal activities straight after treatment.
The Cryopen is a unique pen-like device allowing us to deliver highly accurate and targeted treatments by emitting a fine jet of N₂O under high pressure directly onto the targeted area, meaning no healthy tissue will be affected during treatments.
FAQ's
How does it work?
First Freeze Cycle: The treatment is administered by the clinician by holding the applicator as close as possible to the lesion. Moving it quickly to and fro whilst applying a jet of nitrous oxide onto the lesion causes the area to freeze. This treatment time can last from 1 to 30 seconds, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Thaw: After the first freezing cycle, the tissue will be allowed to thaw for about 30 seconds.
Second Freeze Cycle: A repeat of the first freeze cycle, except this time the tissue will freeze faster than the first time.
How safe is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a relatively low-risk procedure, which is targeted by the Cryopen delivering the N₂O directly onto the lesion and not the healthy surrounding tissue. The Cryopen is both CE and FDA approved.
How Long do Cryopen treatments take?
The penetration rate of freezing with the Cryopen is approximately 1mm per 5 seconds, with a maximum freezing depth of 3 to 6mm. The duration of the treatment will depend on the surface area and the thickness of the tissue being treated. Total treatment time can be over in minutes.
Is it painful?
The treatment itself is painless; however, there may be some residual stinging for a few minutes after the treatment has finished. Occasionally, a blister may form and persist for a few hours.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
This will depend on the surface size and depth of the lesion, but many treatments will only require one visit, although we recommend a follow-up 2 to 4 weeks after the initial treatment to check on progress.
Can you treat darker skin?
Yes, however we recommend shorter freezing cycles and more repeated treatment sessions. For example a 3 to 6 second cycle every 2 weeks.
